You may recall that Weezer’s cover of “Africa” by Toto has been sweeping the nation and internet. The cover even earned a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band is keeping the “Africa” train rolling, recently inviting a special guest to help them out with a live rendition.
Weezer treated fans to the Toto cover during their concert at The Forum in Los Angeles, which has been added to their setlist lately. Towards the end of the song, frontman Rivers Cuomo welcomes “Weird Al” Yankovic onto the stage. Yankovic ripped through the song’s guitar solo on his accordion, joining in on vocals for the last round of choruses.
At the end of the song, he and the Weezer frontman went head to head in a shred battle, Cuomo on his guitar and Yankovic on his accordion. The cheering crowd seemed to love it, and so did Toto themselves, who gave Yankovic kudos on Twitter. Weezer is about to finish their tour with the Pixies. Their next stop is Chula Vista, California on August 11th.
