Faith Hill, Tim McGraw & Ed Sheeran Sued Over “The Rest Of Your Life”

Tim McGrawFaith Hill and Ed Sheeran, are being sued over Tim and Faith’s song “The Rest of Our Life.”

Australian songwriters Sean Carey and Beau Golden filed a lawsuit earlier this week claiming the tune, which Ed co-wrote, represents "blatant copying" of their 2014 song "When I Found You." The songwriters, who are represented by the same lawyers who successfully represented Marvin Gaye’s family in the “Blurred Lines" copyright suit, note that in this case "the copying is, in many instances, verbatim, note-for-note copying of original elements of the Song, and is obvious to the ordinary observer."

The lawsuit also alleges that Sony Music Entertainment, the parent company of McGraw and Hill’s label Arista Nashville, may be the ones who brought them the song. The suit notes, “It very well may have been an agent of Sony Music Entertainment who provided the other defendants herein with access to the Song.”

In addition to the trio, Ed’s co-writers Johnny McDaid and Amy Wadge, were also named in the suit as were Sony/ATV, Universal Polygram and WB Music. Carey and Golden are looking for $5 million in damages, plus profits, royalties and attorney’s fees and costs.
